Barwon Ridge Wines - Barrabool Hills

You can discover a hidden gem in the Barrabool Hills just 10 minutes west of Geelong. The vineyard is located on a ridge above the Barwon River and has sweeping views over the You Yangs.

Barwon Ridge Wines are 100% estate grown Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Marsanne, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon and they are currently developing small plantings of Rousanne and Pinot Meunier.

Barwon Ridge Wines are following in the footsteps of the original Swiss vignerons of Geelong by re-establishing in the Barrabool Hills after an absence of over 100 years. They are committed to sustainable whole farm management and large areas of our property are being revegetated with native and indigenous vegetation of the Barrabool Hills.

The combination of vine management and the location mean that disease pressures are low and so sprays are minimised. They have planted native vegetation around the vineyard to provide shelter and to encourage natural predators, though the birds also like this for resting between vineyard forays during vintage.

In order to improve the moisture retention of the soil we have established a regular program of undervine composting. This helps retain moisture, puts nutrients into the soil and improves soil structure.

This all comes through in the flavour of there wines. The chardonnay carries an appealing level of flinty complexity along with flavours of fresh peach, citrus & nectarine. Has a lovely biscuity, mealy oak influence and stylish finish. The pinot noir has brambly spices, rose & red cherry, delicate with fine boned acidity and hint of savoury leafy tannins. Halliday

Call in to Barwon Ridge Wines for cellar door tastings, tasting platters and home-made produce.
